this is the 21st century and we need to redefine r/evolution. this planet needs a people’s r/evolution. a humanist r/evolution. r/evolution is not about bloodshed or about going to the mountains and fighting. we will fight if we are forced to but the fundamental goal of r/evolution must be peace.

we need a r/evolution of the mind. we need a r/evolution of the heart. we need a r/evolution of the spirit. the power of the people is stronger than any weapon. a people’s r/evolution can’t be stopped. we need to be weapons of mass construction. weapons of mass love. it’s not enough just to change the system. we need to change ourselves. we have got to make this world user friendly. user friendly.

are you ready to sacrifice to end world hunger. to sacrifice to end colonialism. to end neo-colonialism. to end racism. to end sexism.

r/evolution means the end of exploitation. r/evolution means respecting people from other cultures. r/evolution is creative.

r/evolution means treating your mate as a friend and an equal. r/evolution is sexy.

r/evolution means respecting and learning from your children. r/evolution is beautiful.

r/evolution means protecting the people. the plants. the animals. the air. the water. r/evolution means saving this planet.

Presentations that were started last week are due today for class. We will choose 2 of them and then we will help Victoria get ready for our field trip on Friday Sept. 9.

August 31:
Content objective: Students will understand the necessary reasons that they need to write journal entries consistently during their CAS experiences. Students will gather some tools that they can use to make sure that they are on track for the rest of the course.

3 groups of Creative problem solvers!

Brainstorm ideas that can help people remember to write journal entries that are consistent with the journal entry rubric.
Needed: Someone to write ideas on the poster board.
The journal entry rubric.

Instructions

Brainstorming was the brainchild of advertising executive, Alex Osborne, and quickly became the most widely used creativity technique in the world. Today, there are many different versions of the rules, but there were only four in Osborne's original account:
  1. Focus on quantity.
  2. Withhold criticism.
  3. Welcome unusual ideas.
  4. Combine ideas and link them together.

Advice for the Facilitator

By the end of the activity, your team should have come up with a large number of ideas, some of which could have great potential.
Rather than treating the exercise as an end in itself, and letting all those ideas go to waste, use Affinity Diagrams external image reading-plus-grey.gif to group related ideas together. Then, invite people to vote on their favorite ideas using the sticky dots, and discuss why they thought those were the best. Discuss what skills people need to participate fully, such as listening external image reading-plus-grey.gif, encouraging external image reading-plus-grey.gif, and persuading others external image reading-plus-grey.gif.

Debate: What is our problem that needs to be solved? How to find the motivation to do our CAS projects and project journal entries to meet the expectations set out in the rubrics?

Needed: project rubric and journal entry rubric

Generate as many ideas as possible to solve this problem.
I encourage you to debate these among your team and then hold the debate in the classroom next week.

Role play: Create role play scenarios that will lead your fellow classmates to create a CAS project that follows the project rubric. You could use a role model that you look up to in 12th grade and see how they have addressed this issue.

Needed: Project rubric,

Game: Create a game that people will play that will help them remember the 7 learning outcomes and how to achieve them.

Needed: Project rubric.

Was going to do this activity but not everyone had their journal entries turned in to me.

Content objective: To encourage teamwork throughout the IB process. Students will understand the grading process for journal entries.
